Climbing Blind Tibet Expedition 2004
Join six blind Tibetan teenagers as they attempt to climb a 23,000 peak, led by the first blind person to summit Mt. Everest.

Descriptive Theatre – La Jolla Playhouse

  • Provides audio-described Access Performances adapted for patrons with low vision.  The service includes a pre-performance lecture and a comprehensive reading of the program notes.

Guide Dogs of America
Dedicated to providing guide dogs and instruction to blind and visually impaired individuals, so that they can pursue goals of increased mobility and independence.

  • Local advocacy group for guide dog users.  Focuses on legislation for guide dog users as well as accessibility issues. Also offers support, information for guide dog users, particularly information on guide dog training schools.   • Provides financial assistance to eligible lower income individuals who face loss of sight and are unable to afford surgical treatment to help restore vision.

  • Provides newspaper readings over the telephone.   By using a touch-tone phone, users can select newspaper, section and article of interest.  - Newspapers offered: The San Diego Union-Tribune, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, others.
  • All readings done by electronic synthetic speech system.
    Offered free of charge by San Diego County Library Outreach Services and the National Federation of the Blind.
